– Transit Workers Rally to Demand MTA Honor Arbitration Award

Transit workers rallied together under the slogan “No Contract, No Peace” outside the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s midtown headquarters to protest the agency’s refusal to honor a recent arbitration award to the TWU Local 100.

The MTA has gone to court to void a three year contract signed on Aug. 11 that would raise workers’ pay more than 11 percent by the end of the contract.

“The time for playing by the rules are over,” said Sen. John Samson.

In 2005, the union staged a crippling strike that halter subways and buses over its wage fight with the MTA.

Union leaders are also planning a systemwide “Day of Outrage” for Oct. 14.
