Weekend ferry wait

Reservations for Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay are closed for Friday. Leaving Tsawwassen for Swartz Bay you only have two late ferries to choose from and the Tsawwassen to Duke Point route is equally cramped with only the last sailing at 10:45 p.m. open to reservations.

If you’re planning on driving to Vancouver Island from the Lower Mainland this long weekend expect to wait for a ferry or two, or three, if you haven’t made a reservation.

If you are returning to the Lower Mainland on Labour Day there are routes to Tsawwassen open to reservations only in the early morning and late at night. The Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay route is closed except for the 6:20 a.m. sailing.

Islanders heading to the Lower Mainland have more options available to them with many routes still wide open. Return trips on Labour Day are only partially closed to reservations. If you are heading back to Nanaimo your best bet is to depart from Tsawwassen.
