Transit system needs to run 24/7

Recently I and my three brothers-in-law decided to go downtown to watch a Canucks game. We all took public transit from our homes and planned to do the same on our return trip.

We watched the game and, after it ended, went to the casino for a while to round off a great evening.

I live in Surrey. It was 1:30 a.m., so no more SkyTrain available. I flagged down four taxis. None of them were willing to take me home. In the end I had to phone the wife, and eat some humble pie to get home.

In the age of increasing public awareness of global warming and drinking-and-driving issues, why does Vancouver have a transit system that runs only until 1:30 a.m.? I also work shift work and have to make arrangements for rides home when I’m on the late shift.

Wake up, Vancouver. We need a 24/7 transit system.
