Fund transit, not freeways

To The Province

Your editorial board needs a primer on transportation from people with expertise in the field (hint: not Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon) since you don’t seem to understand the results of what you are calling for.

Making the city’s roads more efficient for inefficient single-occupant vehicles will only encourage more people to choose this form of transportation.

Transit is a far more efficient, sustainable means of moving people, but funding must come from senior levels of government. The Gordon Campbell government is primarily interested in funding fossil-fuel freeways and expensive transit megaprojects while starving plain old transit service.

You should be calling on the province and the feds to make more cost-efficient investments in transit that will extend service into the Fraser Valley in the short term, not in 20 years or more.
