Man tasered by transit cops

Delegates of the Urban Arts Forum at Centre A hosted by Governor-General Michaëlle Jean last night (January 24) were shocked when a man was tasered directly in front of the gallery.

Amid cries of “Police brutality!” from the delegates, who were discussing how youth in Vancouver are using arts to combat crime and gang violence, the man was tasered by transit cops. Two Vancouver police officers pinned the man and before hauling him off in a police wagon.

Police said the man had been wandering in an intersection where he narrowly escaped being hit by a bus.

When they attempted to lead him to safety, the man challenged the police.

The CBC is hosting a full video of the incident.
